Warren L. Hayes, 85 years 362 days old, was born on November 9, 1938 in Eastern Greene County to Gene Workman Hayes and Edith Bland Hayes. He went to be with our Lord and Savior on November 6, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sonja G. Inman Hayes, a daughter, Beth Strauser Martin, a son, Warren Douglas Hayes, his parents, Gene and Edith Hayes, two brothers, Donald Gene Hayes (Jeri), Larry Edward Hayes (Loessa), nephews, Mickey Gene Hayes and Aaron Gater.

He is survived by a daughter, Lyn Strauser: two sister, Irene Hayes Davis (Virgil) and Joan Kay Hayes Gater; four grandchildren, Michael Martin, Meghan Elliott McKisson (Scott), Douglas Martin (Jami), Mallarie Elliott Taft (Jason); nine great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

My father lived a very full life. He never knew a stranger. In his early adult years, he traveled to many states building silos for farmers. Following that he worked for Holland Dairy delivering milk. Later he joined his father and went into the Insurance and Realtor business. However, his favorite career of all, was working as a guard at the Carlisle State Security Center. He developed many friendships along the way with not only co-workers, but with several inmates. After retiring from Carlisle Correctional Center, he spent time with our family and the grandchildren. He attended many sporting events, Gospel Sings, Country music shows and enjoying time with his friends. He took part in his men's coffee club, also his breakfast club of friends. He was always very positive, smiling and laughing. He also enjoyed making others smile and laugh. He enjoyed telling stories from long ago and jokes along the way. Everyone he met, just loved him. He enjoyed the fellowship and his church family at the Church of Christ where he attended. He will be greatly missed by many.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Walnut Grove cemetery in rural Bloomfield, with Pat Kelly officiating. Following services, there will be a meal provided at the Walnut Grove Community Building.

There will be no public visitation. Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
