Vernal Irene Callahan, 90, of Odon passed away at 6:00 P.M. on Monday March 2, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Irene was born on September 1, 1924 in Daviess County to the late Luther Wayne and Flossie May (Aishe) Chestnut.

Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her first husband, Blaine Webster, who lost his life in World War II, and one son Luther Kelsey Webster of Odon who passed away on November 3, 2004. On June 1, 1946 she was united in marriage to Frank Russell Callahan of Odon, who passed away on October 28, 1998.

Irene lived most of her life as a homemaker on the farm north of Odon where her and Frank chose to raise not only crops but also their family. It was here that many happy times were enjoyed, and wonderful memories were made and shared, not only by family but by the many friends made along life's way.

As a Green Thumb employee she worked in the nurses office at North Daviess High School. Irene also worked at Ketchem Memorial Nursing Home, she will be long remembered for her generosity and the love she showed to everyone she met.

She is survived by five children: Blaine Webster of Norfolk, Virginia, Flossie (Bennie) Hanna, Frances Callahan all of Odon, Raleigh Callahan and Lisa (Neil) Carpenter of Plainville, Indiana. She was blessed with Fifteen grandchildren and twenty eight great grandchildren.

There will be visitation from 4 to 8 P.M. on Friday and 1 P.M. Saturday until the hour of service at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Richard Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon.

The family wishes any donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
