Stanley Evan Pickard was born July 11, 1935, at home in Lyons, Indiana, to Miriam (Sappenfield) Pickard and Sterling Ryan Pickard. Neighbors knew he had arrived when they saw diapers on the clothesline.
While growing up he helped his grandmother with household tasks such as bringing in wood. His first job was working in his uncle's service station. He also delivered newspapers.
He graduated from Lyons High School and Purdue University.
Stanley joined Armour Dial as a salesman in the late 1950s. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and later was a member of the reserves.
Stanley and Mary Saldo were married in 1959. Their son Michael Ryan was born in Binghamton, New York, and daughter Victoria Christine in Chicago, Illinois.
Stanley was transferred several times with Armour-Dial. He next joined Massey Ferguson's international marketing organization and spent considerable time in England and France.
He returned to Chicago in 1967 in a marketing position with Armour Food Company. In 1971 the company, by then Greyhound Corporation, moved to Phoenix, AZ. In 1976 Stanley was named manager of the Pacific region and moved to Portland, OR. He retired in 1995.
Stanley and Arlene Christianson were married in 1976. They lived in the Portland area, then the California Bay area. They returned to Oregon in 1980.
In an unplanned 1990s second career, Stanley went from aerobic work outs in a Portland pool to teaching specialty aerobics at half a dozen area pools. He was particularly gratified when students recovering from injuries began moving well again after time in his classes.
Stanley and Arlene lived on an island in the Columbia River in the 1980s. In their boat they enjoyed tying up for the night at a quiet cove in the Multnomah Channel or making the two-day trip to Astoria, Oregon.
Stanley was a golfer, an around-the-house fix-it guy, a market watcher and a skilled cook. He was an avid gardener who supplied Arlene's co-workers with fresh produce for several seasons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, brother Erik and brother-in-law Sherrill Cline.

Visitation will be from 11 to 1 P.M. on Saturday January 20, 2024 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. No services are planned. Burial will be at Prairie Chapel Cemetery.
