Myra Jane Downey, 89, of Bloomfield, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Countryside Meadows in Avon, Indiana.
Born May 19, 1936 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Acie and Lucille (Portwood) Ray.
Jane was a teacher and a homemaker. She was a member of Tri Delta sorority at Franklin College where she received her Batchelor's degree in education. She was a volunteer at the Bloomfield Public Library and also helped out with the Apple Festival Arts Show for many years. She attended the Bloomfield Church of Christ. Jane enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting and loved to watch her granddaughter Allie as well as her trips to British Columbia, Canada to see grandson McKenzie.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Mark A. Downey (Kim) of Worthington and Scott D. Downey (Brenda) of Penticton, BC; her grandchildren, Allie N. Bennett (Tyler), W. McKenzie Downey, Nathan Hostetter, (Angie) and Tyler Hostetter; great grandchildren, Millie Bennett, Rylie Bennett, Hayden Hostetter, Jackson Hostetter and Rogue Hostetter; and one brother, Len Ray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Downey on October 13, 2000 and her parents. Myra and Lloyd were married 40 years before his passing.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at Grandview cemetery in Bloomfield, with Grant Riggins officiating.
Public visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to the Bloomfield Library because Jane had such a love of reading books.
