Merle Allen Sewell, 77, of Bloomfield, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at his daughter's residence in Bloomfield.

Born September 6, 1938 in Kansas City, Kansas, he was the son of Louis George and Celia (Miller) Sewell.

He was retired as the Postmaster at the Bloomfield Post Office. He was a member of the Bloomfield American Legion Post #196, Bloomfield Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, NAPUS and NARFE. He served his country with the United States Air Force.

Surviving relatives include: one daughter, Annette Louise McPike (Steven) of Bloomfield; one son, Timothy Allen Sewell (Shari) of Bloomfield; one sister, Yolonda Mae King of Overland Park, Kansas; his grandchildren, P.J. Merritt (Larisa), Ami Sewell and Jordyn Sewell; his great grandchildren, Abigail, Aubrey, Layla and Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise (Birdsong) Sewell on November 25, 2012, three brothers, one sister and his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Rev. Jeff Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview cemetery in Bloomfield.

Public visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Home.
