Mary Jeane Barker,Quillin, Goodwin, 90, died Thursday at the Garden Villa Nursng Home, Norton Lane, Bedford In. She was under Hospice care the last few days of her life.
She was born Sept. 6, 1921 ½ mile W of Scotland. her parents were Amelia "Mellie" Hubbard Barker and James Wilbert Barker, both deceased.
She attended Scotland school except for a few months spent in Chicago and Oakland Ill with relatives. During her 4th and 6th grades she spent time living with her Grandmother Barker and her Aunt Alice Haywood. She graduated from Scotland and went on to Central Beauty College in Indianapolis. Then she got busy keeping the ladies of Greene County beautiful!! She enjoyed her Beauty Shop work and had many lovely precious friends.
She met her husband Julien Wentworth "Squint" Quillin got engaged in Nov 19 and married Jan. 21, 1942.
Feb. 12, 1941 she opened her own shop on South Seminary. When her husband came home from the war, the family moved to East Main first on the North side then later across the street. Her husband died of heart and cancer complications in 1980.
In 1943, July 20th Jeane and Went had a baby girl (me) Judith Ilene Quillin Michaels. I was 2 when my Dad finally made it home from the war! Three years later in 1946 my brother William Emerson was born- he did not have a paint brush or a black marker in his hand for a few years. That's not the end of my Mother's story. One Sunday she went to church early and sat in her favorite pew. A man sat down on the other end of the pew. People kept coming in both ways forcing the man and women to scoot closer together. After the service they talked and Jim Goodwin asked the lady to have dinner sometime. I don't think she accepted the first time asked. Soon she did accept and in 1983 they were married. Now I have three brothers, George and Bob Goodwin and Emerson Quillin. Thanks in part to those special people at the First Christian Church!
Mary Jeanes' only brother Lowell Barker was a civil servant and died in 1990. Sarah Ross Barker is still living in Iowa near one of her three daughters. One daughter is Sally is deceased and their only son Lowell jr. is deceased.
My mother has many cousins and was fond of them all! Thanks to all that have kept in touch with her, visited her, or helped to fill her hours when she was in Bloomfield.
I have not forgotten to mention her fine Grandsons, Michael, Christopher, Benjamin, Steven and James. And on the Goodwin side 2 step Grandsons, Dan and Mark and a granddaughter Denise. They all loved her and will miss her! Partly taken from some pages of the diary Mom left me.

Friends may call from 11 A.M. on Thursday until the hour of service at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Arlen Pope officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.
