Martin Poteat

Martin Poteat, 88, of Bloomfield, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at the Redcrest Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born June 29, 1938 in Washington, D.C. he was the son of Martin Davis and Laura Lee (Newton) Banta.

Martin was an electrical engineer working for Consumer Power in Michigan, Hoosier Energy and Florida Power and Light. He belonged to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Days Saints in Linton.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Beryl Poteat whom he married June 12, 1965; his children, Martin Daniel Poteat, Aaron James Poteat (Leonani); Timothy Michael Poteat, Michelle Lynne Zeegers and Kristin Beryl Poteat; grandchildren, Gabriela Poteat, Micah Poteat, Jacob Poteat, Kamryn Poteat, Laura Parton, Skylar Zeegers, Hannah Zeegers, Payton Zeegers, Logan Whitman, Aryanna Whitman, Faryn Belger, Emory Belger and Gwyneth Belger; his great grandchildren, Lana Winings, Athena Winings, Kayden Winings, Tatum Parton and Kolbie Parton; and one brother, Charles Poteat.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Laura May Parente, a grandchild, Mercades Winings and his parents.

Public visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield and 1 hour prior to services and Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bloomington.  Graveside services will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bloomington.
