Martha Ann Wesner, 89, passed away peaceably at her home on March 12, 2014.Martha was born September 14, 1924 in Newberry, Indiana to Felix and Anna (Manley) Sappenfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and brothers-in-laws Jess and Mary Helma Scott, Charles and Evelyn Mohr, also son-in-law Ed Martindale and brother-in-law Eugene Wesner.Martha married Max D. Wesner on June 22, 1944, he preceded her in death on July 21, 2001. She is survived by her children, Robert (Jean) Wesner and Dianna (Don) Brookshire. Grandchildren Brian Wesner, Jeremy (Kim) Wesner, Heidi (Marty) Sargent all on Newberry, Julie (Rick) Baker of Marco and Dustin (Jenny) Brookshire of Fishers. Great grandchildren Emilee Wesnar, Max Wesner, Anna Sargent and Emma Sargent of Newberry, Braydon and Addyson Wesner of Odon, Casey Baker of Marco, Olivia and Jenna Brookshire of Fishers. Several nieces and nephews and special cousins Marsha Kline and Mike Swayze.Martha graduated from Newberry High School in 1943 and was always active in planning the annual Newberry Alumni meeting with abundant stories, history and pictures. She was a member of the Newberry United Methodist Church her whole life, active in women's group, teaching, and played the organ for years. She was a Past Matron of Newberry Order of Eastern Star and Past Grand Representative of Indiana Grand Chapter. She presently held the office of secretary, she served also as the secretary of Newberry Cemetery Association, had been active in D.A.R., active member of the Newberry Progressive Club. She was always called for local history, she was anxiously awaiting the completion of the new bridges at Newberry having used the old covered bridges and seeing the present ones built in her youth. A big sports fan she always attended her kids, grand kids, great grandkids, neighbors grandkids games of football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, softball, track and 4 - H horse shows at WRV and North Daviess. She followed all IU, Pacers and St. Louis Cardinals games, she loved eating out, telling jokes and stories.Friends can call from 5 to 8 P.M. on Friday at Newberry United Methodist Church and 9 A.M. Saturday until the hour of service at the Church. Newberry Order of Eastern Star will have services at the church on Friday evening.Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at the Newberry United Methodist Church with Pastor Nikki Marker officiating.
