Leslie "Sam" W. Crowe, 79, of rural Bloomfield died Saturday, July 31 at Bloomington Hospital.
Born September 3, 1930 in Greene County, Sam was the son of Bryan and Nellie (Sullivan) Crowe. He married Nina M. (Workman) Crowe on August 15, 1954.
He was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and the Solsberry American Legion Post #450. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He received a bachelor's degree on September 9, 1957 and a master's degree on September 7, 1965 from Indiana University. After graduation he was a teacher, coach and administrator the schools at Switz City, Solsberry and Eastern where he retired in 1992 after thirty-five years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Naomi Carmichael and three brothers, Ranard, Lexie and Dale.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years Nina M. Crowe; one daughter, Linda R. Crowe of Bloomfield; two sons, Bradley W. and wife Gina Crowe of Bloomington and Brent D. and wife Tammy Crowe of Bloomfield; grandchildren, Hanah, Mackenzie, Blake, Brayden and Clint; one sister, Leona Frye of Bloomfield; and one brother, Glen "Doc" Crowe of Bloomfield.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Eastern-Greene Middle School Gymnasium and 1 hour prior to services at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
