John Malcolm Cady, 75, of Scotland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 25, surrounded by his loving family, friends, and caregivers at his home in Scotland.
Born in Arcata, California on February 2, 1951 to James and Lanore Cady, he attended Arcata High School and was known as an avid golfer. Playing under his father, the golf coach, he won the Varsity Tri-County Golf Championship in his Junior year. He continued to enjoy golf throughout his entire life.
He graduated from Utah State University in 1977. Deciding to travel across the United States before he settled down, he spent the next decade visiting many states including Wyoming, Indiana and Utah. During this time, he perfected his cooking skills, working at Dude ranches, Gourmet restaurants and spent several years managing a lunch line serving 300 construction workers.
He returned to California and settled in Fortuna where he worked as a Chef in many of the finest restaurants. He worked at Parlatos as the head Chef for 20 years, serving delicious food to his friends and neighbors. At this time, he realized he could work at the restaurant at night and teach and coach at Fortuna High School during the day. He enjoyed fishing and made great use of the rivers and streams in Northern California. Returning to Indiana in 2006 to care for his mother, he insured her last 6 years were filled with love and joy.
John had a natural affinity for always bringing a smile to others. He was a good, kind man his whole life, and everybody loved John.
Survived by his brother Bill Cady, many cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A public graveside service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 1st at the Scotland Cemetery. All arrangements by Jenkins Funeral Home, Bloomfield.
