Obituary

Jim Whaley, 84, of Solsberry passed away Wednesday September 16, 2026 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born August 10, 1942 in Hendricksville, Indiana the son of Bill and Waneta (Faulk) Whaley.

Jim was retired from Consolidated FreightWays; he had also worked at Griffith Motor Express, Otis Elevator and Frosted Foods, he loved restoring old tractors, farming, cutting wood, driving his old tractors in the Apple Festival parade and most of all his family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Carol Whaley, his three children, Kim Whaley, Barry (Jacque) Whaley, Bill (Tamara) Whaley, his grandchildren, Chelsea Whaley, Cheyenne (Jackson) Bowlen, Rhett (Katie) Whaley, Reece (Mallory) Whaley, Hannah Whaley, his great grandchildren, Haylen, Henley, Ellie, Wade, Stella Jo, his siblings, Helen (Phil) Sims, Martha (John) Mathews, Donnie (Jeri) Whaley, Darlene (Tony) Keller, Ramona Peoples, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, who will cherish his memory.

Jim was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Barrett Bowlen, his mother-in-law, Helen Jenkins, siblings, Bob Whaley, Darold Whaley, Sue Watkins, Dude Whaley, Ola Underwood, Paul Whaley, Nancy Sheets, Leroy Whaley, Grover Walters, sister-in-law’s, Alice Whaley, Janet Whaley, Vicki Hunter, and brother-in-law’s Jack Halstead and Phil Sims.

Visitation will be held on Sunday September 20, 2026 at the Solsberry Community Methodist Church from 3 to 8 P.M. and noon Monday until the hour of service at the Church.

Services will be held on Monday at the Solsberry Community Church at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Rob Martindale officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Chapel Cemetery.

The family ask that all memorial donations in Jim’s name be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
