Janet Sue Merkel, 76, of Scotland, Indiana, passed away Sunday evening, April 2, 2023, with family by her side.

She was born on December 8, 1946, in Linton, Indiana. Janet was the daughter of Russell Earl Summerville and Vivian Verneice (Padgett) Summerville.

Janet was retired from Crane as a Data Specialist and was a member of the Scotland Historical Society.

Surviving relatives include her three children, Denise (Steve) Bilskie, Russell (Danielle) Merkel, Janell Merkel; her two grandchildren, Adam Merkel and Collin (Madalynn) Merkel, one sister, Eva Willis, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Danny Lee Merkel on May 1, 2019 and her parents.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday, April 5th, and from 10 A.M. until the hour of service on Thursday, April 6th, at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Fred Haywood officiating. Burial will follow at the Scotland Cemetery.

The family wishes any memorial donations in Janet's name be given to the Scotland Historical Society.
