Jan Rene (Elrod) Yake, 67, of Bloomfield, Indiana passed away February 27, 2026. She was born on September 30, 1958 to her parents, Billy Anderson Elrod and Ruth Elinor (Crandall) Elrod, who preceded her in death.

Jan graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1976. She earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana State University. Most of her early life was spent as a stay at home mother devoting her time and attention to her children. Later, she worked as a Reading Specialist and was an advocate of early reading with her children, grandchildren, and the community. She loved antiques and her creativity shined with repurposing items and being creative through various mediums. She fulfilled a dream of opening her store, Primitive Decor & More in Bloomfield and enjoyed socializing with the community.


She is survived by her children: Braden (Rhonda) Yake of Bloomington, IN., Austin (Bethany) Yake of Washington, IN., Kenley (Vanessa) Yake of Bloomfield, IN., and Kiersten (Christopher) Carrico of Panama City, FL; Her grandchildren: Aubrey Yake, Grayson Yake, Landon Yake, Camden Yake, Cohen Yake, Madalyn Yake, Brody Yake, Mayla Yake, Ryker Carrico, Blakely Carrico, Maverick Carrico, and Briar Carrico; and siblings Stephen Elrod of New York, NY and Beaufort, SC and Lanna Elrod-Flynn of Cape Coral, FL., as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and lifelong friends.

Per her wishes, no public memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Bloomfield Public Library (812-384-4125) in memory of Jan Yake.
