Helena Evelyn (White) Benham of Worthington went to be with the Lord at the Bloomington Hospice House on Sunday, January 19, 2014.
She was born December 2, 1927 to Joseph and Icie Belle (Jeffers) White of Lyons. She was married to Jack Benham for 68 years and they had four children. Her surviving children are Terry (Beverly) Benham of Worthington, Jacquelyn Benham (Larry Burleson) of Maynardville, TN, and Jeanne Elliott of Lawrenceburg, KY. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Kevin (Jana) Benham, Dena (Dean) Martin of Worthington, and Todd and Tonya Elliott of Lawrenceburg, KY.; and six great grandchildren, Aden and Maya Benham, Edan and Ande Martin, Kristen Junkin and Kasey Hall; and one great, great grandchild, Kaylee Junkin; her siblings, Molly Patterson, Morris (Phyllis) White and Bill J. White all of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by an infant son, Jackie Joe, one brother, Donnie White, two sisters-in-law, Vickie White and Carol White, one brother-in-law, Clyde Patterson and a son-in-law, Bob Elliott.
She was an accountant for H & R Block in Spencer. She was a member of the Lyons M&M Club for 67 years and attended the Indiana Extension Homemakers conferences for 67 years. She was a graduate of Indiana University. She was a member of Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church, and a long time volunteer at the Sonshine Shop in Worthington.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Prairie Chapel United Methodist in Lyons, with Rev. Nikki Marker and Rev. Terry Marker officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Chapel cemetery in rural Lyons.
Public visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Lyons and 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Sonshine Shop, Worthington Senior Citizens or the Bloomington Hospice House.
