Obituary

Gene Rollins of Newberry passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

He was born on August 21, 1932 in Greene County, the son of Clarence and Naomi (Fish) Rollins.

Gene worked as a farmer, Truck Driver and retired from Marathon Oil refinery. After retiring he hauled grain for Mike and Bill Burkhart of Plainville. He loved spending winters in Florida and working with his brother-in-law, Joe Kelly hauling cattle. He also enjoyed vacationing in the Smoky Mountains with his family. Gene loved fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lila (McDaniel) Rollins of Newberry; his children, Connie Keller (Kevin) of Newberry, Chris Rollins (Rhea) of Fairfield, Illinois, Mark Rollins (Denise) of Newberry and Ella Jane "Janie" Rollins of Greenwood; four sisters, Rosemary Hatfield of Bloomfield, Joanna Henderson (Bob) of Bloomfield, Betty Mishler (Warren) of Greencastle and Dorothy Kelly of Brooksville, Florida; three brothers, Larry Rollins of Bloomfield, Darrell Rollins (Mary Ann) of Odon and George Rollins (Christine) of Newberry; his grandchildren, Regina Rollins and Jessica Owen (Laramie) both of Fairfield, Illinois, Andy Rollins (Sara) of Xenia, Illinois, Clay Rollins (Emalee) of Lyons and Conner Rollins of Newberry; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Naomi Rollins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Newberry United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Chapel cemetery in rural Lyons.

Public visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Newberry United Methodist Church. Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to Riley Hospital for Children or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
