Obituary

Donald "Don" Ray Carmichael, 70, went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, peacefully on Monday November 4, 2024, at IU Health Bloomington Hospice House. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Don was born to Betty (Roberts) Carmichael and Arthur Carmichael on May 20, 1954, in Linton, Indiana.

Don grew up in Bloomfield, Indiana. He was known as a family man, avid outdoorsman and sports fan. He always enjoyed spending time with his family to experience the joy and laughter of his children, grandkids and great-grandchildren. He loved to hunt, fish, and work in his garden to grow the biggest tomato plants and pumpkins that you ever saw.

He could be a man of few words, but some advice was always consistent… patience and perseverance. Whether trudging though the tough times in life, or waiting on the trophy buck, the advice holds true.

Don started working for Otis Elevator in 1972 where he was employed for over 30 years. He served many roles during his tenure including Welding, Maintenance, Chief Steward and Vice President on the negotiating committee for the AFL CIO IUE Local 826 Union. He made many friends over the years there, including several that traveled with him on his 15 fishing trips to Canada. Don also met the love of his life at Otis. He married Connie (Riggins) Carmichael on June 24, 1989.

Survivors include: his wife of 35 years, Connie Carmichael; his three sons, Darin (Julie) Warthan of Bloomington, Adam (Jen) Carmichael of Romney, and Tim (Dara) Carmichael of Calvertville; one brother, Jim Bob (Jewel) Carmichael of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerry and David Carmichael.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Jenkins Funeral home in Bloomfield with Gene Pashley officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Grove in Bloomfield.

Public visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family wishes that any memorial donations in Don's name be given to the Walnut Grove Cemetery.
