David Lee Sams, 72, of Lyons, passed away at 4:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at his residence.
Born October 9, 1941 in Hazard, Kentucky, he was the son of Jasper Lee and Edna (Nichols) Sams.
He was a truck driver for Irving Materials, Inc.
Surviving relatives include: his sons, Michael L. Sams (Amy) of Owensburg, Gary D. Sams of Lyons and Jeff S. Sams of Worthington; daughters, Beth Corbin (Cory) and Karen Baughman (Joey) both of Linton; stepdaughter, Barbara Verseman (Dwayne) of Worthington; one sister, Norma Napier of Hazard, Kentucky; one brother, Jimmy Sams of Corbin Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle (Hatchett) Sams on March 12, 2000, one stepson, David Shake, one grandson, Ethan Nail, one sister, Helen Davis, brothers, Odell Sams, Coleman Sams and John L. Sams and his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Lyons. Interment will follow in Prairie Chapel cemetery in rural Lyons. Following the graveside services family and friends are invited to gather at the Lyons American Legion for a Celebration of Life.
Public visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 1 hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
