Obituary

Danny Ray Carmichael, a loving father, brother, papaw, and friend passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 74.

Dan was born April 8, 1951, in Linton, Indiana to Virgil L. and Hilda F. (Pittman) Carmichael. Surviving relatives include: his daughter, Connie Kay Kates (Ryan), grandchildren, Maggie Kay and Cooper David; and his sister, Patty Kaye Huff (Kenton). He was preceded in death by his parents, Connie's mother Debbie Carmichael, and his loyal companion Buster.

He was a 1969 graduate of L&M High School, where he was active in several sports. He then went on to graduate from Vincennes University. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy. Dan went on to manage a thoroughbred breeding facility Shadowlawn Farms, feeding his lifelong love of horses. Never one to back down from a challenge, he became an engineer for the Indiana Railroad, from which he retired. Dan was a member of the Church of Christ, the American Legion in both Linton and Lyons as well as the Elks Lodge in Linton. Danny led a full life deeply ingrained into his community.

Danny would never turn down a euchre game, or a round of golf. Time in the local bowling league was a favorite way to spend a weeknight. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play their individual sports and would love an opportunity to snuggle. Buster, his beloved dog, was a staple in the later years of his life. They enjoyed their walks and spending their senior years together. His Sister Patty was a favorite in his life and his closest confidant. The apple of his eye will always be his daughter Connie. He loved her fiercely. He was so proud of her , however, he definitely thought his son-in-law Ryan hung the moon. He will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who know him.
