Dallas Dewayne Byers' Obituary
Dallas Dewayne Byers, 88, died on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 3:40 PM at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
He was born on April 3, 1926 to Dannie and Agnes Mae (Vest) Byers. He married Patricia Lee Shouse on January 26, 1951 and she survives.
He attended Bloomfield High School. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a survivor of IWO JIMA. He was a life member and past commander of Bloomfield American Legion Post 196, a life member of Worthington VFW post 7117 and a member of the Bloomfield first Christian Church.
He worked at Crane Naval Ammunition Depot, retiring in 1979, for twenty years following his retirement he owned his own stone hauling business and served many in the Greene County community by hauling stone and fill dirt.
His greatest joy was being on his farm, driving his tractor, mowing his lawn, caring for his cattle and sitting on his back porch watching the wildlife and the beautiful country side.
Also surviving are his children, Darrell (Diana) Byers of Bloomfield, Nancy (Byron) Pittman of Sandborn and Judy Griffith of Bloomington.
Surviving grandchildren include Aaron (Myra) Byers, Michelle (Russell) Brown, Niki (Derrick) Tennant, Michelle (Scott) Helms, Lori Lorenz and Johnathan (Mandy) Britton. He has sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild is expected in October.
Dallas has one surviving brother, Fred (Beverly) Byers of Bloomington and one sister-in-law Phyllis Payne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Paul Richard Byers who was killed on Normandy Beach in WWII, his son-in-law Michael Dean Griffith, his great grandson Danny Joseph Byers, his grandson Jeromy David Pittman and his brother-in-law Donald Payne.
Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 8 PM.
Graveside services will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield on Saturday at 10 AM with Randall Brown and Larry Ellis officiating.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Bloomfield First Christian Church or Greene County Humane Society, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
