Charlotte Darlene Smith, 70, of Vincennes passed away Tuesday December 30, 2025 at Gentle Care of Vincennes.
Born May 29, 1955 in Linton, Indiana the daughter of Phillip W. Holtsclaw and Charlotte (Abrams) Gabbard.
Darlene worked in food service for several years before finding her true calling in Nursing. She was a graduate of Vincennes University School of Nursing in 1997, and was an LPN for 21 years before illness forced her to retire. When she wasn't working, she loved to see new places and was the queen of vacationing on a budget. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for numerous friends and family events; but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whether it was bass fishing or teaching them to cook.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Mikel R. Smith, her children, Melissa Dawn Webster, Brandi (Joseph) Conder, Christopher (Mikayla Butler) Smith, Daniel Smith, her grandchildren, Chase Webster, Aaron Poirot, Austin Webster, Nathan (Lauren) Blosl, Ellah Blosl, KarisArya Conder, one great granddaughter, Winnie Blosl, and one great grandson on the way, Thomas Blosl. Darlene has three brothers, Kenneth (Kathy) Holtsclaw, Matthew Holtsclaw, Kenny Gabbard, four sisters, Angie (Jeff) Jackson, Kathy (Jeff) Claywell, Elizabeth Gabbard, Lisa Wingfield, her father and step-mother, Phillip and Dianna Holtsclaw, several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Darlene was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Gabbard, step-father, James Gabbard and son-in-law Michael Poirot.
Visitation will be held on Monday January 5, 2026 from 11 A.M. until the hour of service at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Services will be held on Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Scott Chastain officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeport Cemetery.
The family ask any memorial donations in Charlotte's name be given to Ridgeport Cemetery.
