Obituary

Carl Henry Sparks (known affectionately as Pappaw) age 84 of Bloomfield, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Carl was born on October 11, 1939 in Stanford, IN to Herschel and Lillian (Crane) Sparks. After graduating Bloomington High School, he entered the United States Air Force. Upon leaving the service, Carl served as a mechanic for MCCSC and drove a semi for Combs Trucking before landing at Eastern Greene Schools where he was the director of maintenance and transportation before retiring after 19 years. However, those that knew Carl know he never truly retired. He stayed busy picking up odd jobs, driving a school bus, going on mission trips, and helping any friend or neighbor in need.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Kathryn, his daughters Kathy (Richard) Hakeem and Carla (Aaron) Quakenbush, and his sisters Norma Graebe and Carol (Barney) Tow. Pappaw leaves behind 4 granddaughters: Heather (Robert) Emminger, Stephanie (Alex) Clary, Amber (Josh) Harding, and Courtney (Jacob) Williams, 3 step-grandchildren: Adam (Miranda) Quakenbush, Madison Quakenbush, and Josie Quakenbush, as well as 8 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Rebecca Whaley and Doris Sparks, and his brothers: Roger Sparks, William Sparks, and Bruce Sparks.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 7. There will be a visitation from 1:00pm-4:00pm with a funeral service to be held at 4:00pm at Cincinnati Christian Church, 11432 E State Road 54, Bloomfield, IN.
