Bobbie David Rollins, 76 of Newberry, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 1st at his home, after a brief but difficult battle with lung cancer. Bobbie was born in Scotland, Indiana on June 22, 1941, the son of Wilma (Hamilton) Rollins and William Robert Rollins. Bobbie spent most of his life in and around Greene County. He was the only child to survive since two brothers had died at birth.
Bobbie was a Green Beret Ranger and served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade from 1968 to 1970. He was highly decorated with National Defense Service Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, four Overseas Bars, Parachutist Badge and Sharpshooter (M14).
He is survived by his wife Ruth Ellen and two sons, Denny Joe Rollins and William David Rollins and one stepson, Troy Frye. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and one step grandson and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Denny Joe and Gary Keith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Pastor Fred and Pastor Peggy Haywood officiating. Interment will follow in Scotland Cemetery.
Public visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 1 hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Newberry Methodist Church or Newberry Masonic Lodge.
