Beverly Joyce (Hancock, Porter, Wright) Cook, 88, of Freedom, Indiana went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at her residence.

Born October 30, 1936 on Porter Ridge Road in Spencer, Indiana, she was the daughter of James Monroe and Mary (Davis) Hancock.

She was a member of Bethany Community Church where you could hear her praising and worshipping the Lord through her beautiful voice and God-given talent playing the piano.

Beverly worked many places through the years including: RCA, Monroe Co. BMV, Rostone in Spencer, Griffen Engineering in Worthington, Bloomington Hospital, and the Spencer Evening World Newspaper as a secretary and proofreader.

She also enjoyed her time as a Representative for Avon and Tupperware.

Beverly, along with her brother Richard and former wife Judy, were the Youth Group leaders at New Hope Baptist Church for many years, sometimes having up to 35 children in their class. In her later years, she volunteered at Seedline International, a company that manufactured Bibles for home and abroad in many languages.

She loved playing (tearing up!) the piano, reading romance novels, Sudoku and word search puzzles, crocheting, and a good game of Scrabble (somehow, she always won), and surprisingly, she was a pool shark! (Story to come!)

Beverly also enjoyed playing music with her husband Larry, at church and local nursing homes.

To know Beverly is to know that she loved the Lord and being surrounded by her family and friends. She had so many talents but we believe her greatest gifts were sharing her faith, love and kindness with others.

Beverly is survived by her husband, to whom she married on October 4, 2008, Larry G. Cook; her children, Valena Byrum (Dave), Scott Porter (Amy) and Ardella Porter. Her adopted children, Roger & Janet Williams and Leon & Sandy Eernisse and daughter-in-law Phyllis Porter. Her siblings, Robert Hancock (Janie) and Nancy Porter (Charles) and her brother-in-law Mark Cook. She was blessed with fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Porter and their twin sons, Daniel and Manuel; her second husband, Fred Wright; siblings, Richard and Marvin Hancock and her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Interment will follow at Calvertville Cemetery in rural Bloomfield.

Public visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
