Obituary

Betty Jo Laughlin, 87, of Bloomington passed away Saturday January 31, 2026 at Richland Bean Blossom Healthcare Center in Ellettsville.

Betty started her career at Westing House and retired as co-owner of Laughlin Painting Company; she was a membered of the First Assembly of God Church in Bloomington.

Betty was born on March 19th, 1938, to her proud parents Johnny & Roxie Michael and was the youngest of three sisters. She was extremely close to her sisters and told many entertaining stories of their youthful adventures. She attended Clover Bottom Grade School and graduated in 1956 from Solsberry High School. After her graduation she met her husband of sixty-four years, the one and only John Ingles Laughlin, after he returned from his military service, during the Korean War. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt, whose greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and those she touched in life.

Surviving relatives include her son, Robert Bryan Laughlin, her daughter-in-law's, Janet A. (Burhans) Laughlin, Lisa (Stillions) Monroe, her grandchildren, Nicole (Laughlin) Dixon, Rachel Christine (Laughlin) Walcott, Kaela Rose Laughlin, Alexis Laughlin, her great grandchildren, Ashlyn Nicole Laughlin, Kasyn Dixon, Aiden Dean Walcott, Ian Alexander Walcott, Nora Eve Walcott, and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John Ingles Laughlin on January 4, 2021, two sons, John Ingles Laughlin, Jr; Mark David Laughlin, two sisters, Mona Reed, Juanita Uland and her parents.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.

After the visitation is completed a time of sharing and celebration of life will begin at 3:30 pm on Wednesday.

Betty will be buried beside her husband and next to her sons at Scotland Cemetery and her faith is told in John 11:25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers all donations in Betty's name be given to Scotland Cemetery.

We would like to give special thanks to the caregivers at Richland Bean Blossom Health Care Center and Heart to Heart Hospice. Thank you for your wonderful care.
