Gene W. Hayes

Gene W. Hayes 91, of Bloomfield, passed away Friday February 24, 2006 at 5:35 a.m. at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. Born December 3, 1914 in Jasonville. He was the son of Vernon and Hulda (Workman) Hayes. He was the owner & operator of G.W. Hayes Insurance in Bloomfield and also worked as a farmer and a construction worker. He was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, Solsberry Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Terre Haute Shrine, Solsberry American Legion, Worthington VFW, Past President of the Greene County Shrine Club, Bloomfield OES, Past President of the Bloomfield Town Board, Past President of the Greene County Council, Past President of the Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include:three sons, Donald Hayes of Springville, Warren Hayes of Switz City, and Larry Hayes of Bloomfield; two daughters, Irene Davis of Bloomfield and Joan Gater of Dugger; one stepdaughter, Virginia Daupert of Indianapolis; one brother, Jack Hayes of Bloomfield; four sisters, Mary Nation of Sullivan, Veda Hall of Seattle, Washington, Betty Martindale and Linda Helms both of Bloomfield; seven grandsons, Garry W. Davis, Steve Davis, Matthew Hayes and Aaron Gater all of Bloomfield, Mark Hayes of Bloomington, Scott Hayes of Pennsylvania, and Christopher Hayes of Washington; nine granddaughters, Gloria J. Hudson of Bloomfield, Candis Jackson of Medora, Angela Wise of Switz City, Melony Gaither of California, Shyla Horsely of Terre Haute, Beth Martin of Sandborn, Lynn May of Washington, Rachael Foster of Sullivan, and Marilla Gater of Dugger; five stepgrandchildren & several great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, & great, great grandchildren. He was prceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, Edith (Bland) Hayes in 1968, 2nd wife, Gladys May (Hamilton) Hayes in 1991, three brothers, John R., Mike, and Robert Hayes, one daughter, Gloria Jean Hayes, one sister, Geneva Jenkins, two grandsons, and two great grandsons. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 28, 2006 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home Bloomfield, Indiana with Rev. Lynn Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Grandview cemetery in Bloomfield where the Solsberry American Legion will perform military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 1 hour prior to services Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to: American Diabetes Association in care of Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home.
