Lester M. Coker, 83, of Bloomfield, passed away Wednesday June 28, 2006 at 9:15 a.m. at his residence.
Born January 1, 1923 in Marco, he was the son of Orval and Charity Faye (Kirk) Coker.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country in WW II with the MADCATS VP 63 squadron. He was a graduate of Marco high school and an Elder at the Switz City Christian Church. He blonged to the Bloomfield American Legion Post # 196, AFGE, NARFE, and ABATE. He was an Engineering Technician at NSWC Crane retiring in 1978.
Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Leatrice E. (Rollins) Coker of Bloomfield; two sons, Terry and his wife Terri (Wilson) Coker of Bloomfield and Ron Coker of Bloomfield; one Daughter-in-law, Angela (Sharr) Coker of Bloomfield; seven grandchildren, David and his wife Alice Guthrie of Indianapolis, Jason Coker of Lyons, Anne and her husband Timothy Pruett of Springville, Neil Coker of Bloomington, Stephanie Graves of Bloomington, and Elizabeth and Amber Coker both of Bloomfield; four great grandchildren, Isaac and Emily Guthrie of Indianapolis, and Ethan and Ashton Pruett of Springville; two sisters, Jean and her husband Jim Page of Linton and Wanda Baker of Linton; two brothers, Orval (Bud) and his wife Lou Coker of Calhan, Colorado and Stanley (Pete) and his wife Flo Coker of Bicknell; two sisters-in-olaw, Treva Hobbs of Bloomfield and Glenora and her husband Miles Skinner of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Wilma Nelle (Haywood) Coker, one son, Russel Coker in 2003, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday June 30, 2006 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Rev Billy ed Hostettler and Rev. Chris Gehring officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Chapel cemetery in rural Lyons where military services will be conducted by Bloomfield American Legion Post # 196.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
