Joshua Jon Merritt, 11, of Newberry, passed away at 8:12 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Riley Childrens Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born February 10, 1998 in Bloomington, he was the son of Peter James Merritt and Lisa Mae (Crays) Burris.
Josh was a fourth grade student at East Elementary School in Loogootee and previously attended Bloomfield Elementary School. Josh enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors and was a member of the Bloomfield Youth League football team.
Surviving relatives include: his mother, Lisa Mae Burris of Newberry; Father, Peter James Merritt of Clayton, New York; brothers, P.J. Merritt and Tristen Burris both of Bloomfield; grandparents, Mike and Marilyn Crays of Bloomfield, Georgiana and John Kormondy of Clayton, New York, Sharon Hanyon of Linton, and Rodney Walker of Linton; his aunts and uncles,Sara Spainhower of Bloomfield, Pam & Chuck Owings of Bedford, Tammy and Jeremy Chesterfield of Bloomfield, Mike Crays of Lyons, and Rodney and Ryan Walker of Evansville, Fred and Norah Merritt of Poughkeepsie, New York, Benita and Lee Adams of Prescott Ontario, Canada, Kelly Kormondy of Clayton, new York, and Jay and Marcia Kormondy of Lafargeville, New York; and many cousins who adored and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his great, grandparents, Gene & Betty Williams and his great, great, grandmother, Mae Williams.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler officiating. Interment will be in Scotland cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 1 hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to Bloomfield Youth League Football or Riley Childrens Hospital burn unit in care of Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home.
