Joseph W. Skomp, 74, of Lyons, passed away Friday November 10, 2017 at his home.
Born October 27, 1943 to Faye (Magner) and Joseph B. Skomp.
Joe was a graduate of the 1961 class of Central High School in Switz City, he was employed at NWSC Crane for thirty-eight years and ten years at SAIC, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Viet Nam War. Joe was a member of the Linton Elks, Knights of Columbus, Saint Peter Catholic Church in Linton, Lyons American Legion, he enjoyed attending the veteran's coffee group, coaching cross country, youth basketball, being outdoors, mowing and gardening.
Surviving relatives include his wife Irene (Strange) Skomp whom he married on August 19, 1967; two sons, Jerry D. Skomp (Deborah) of Noblesville, Jason B. Skomp (Amber) of Lyons, his grandchildren, Jack & Anna Skomp , Hank & Miles Skomp and Lyric Shaw, two sisters, Ruth Skomp of Portland, Oregon; Janet Nybakke (John) of Astoria, Oregon, sister-in-law Ann Skonp of Crawfordsville and Aunt Carolyn Burgess (Bob) of Michigan.
Joe was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey W. Skomp, two brothers, Jim and John Skomp and his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Sunday November 12, 2017 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Lyons and Monday 8:30 to 9:30 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Lyons.
A Burial Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday at Saint Peter Catholic Church in Linton with Father Beju Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.
