Obituary

Joseph L. Hart, 79, of Linton passed away Friday September 1, 2023 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born November 9, 1943 in Wayne, Michigan the son of Joseph L. and Ruth (Shonk) Hart.

Joe was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, completing two tours of duty. Joe was a successful teacher, coach, and sign painter for several years. Joe left Union-Dugger as the winningest basketball coach in Sullivan County history, earning numerous awards along the way. He was an assistant coach with his son at Linton-Stockton during the winningest decade in Greene County basketball history. He painted signs for businesses for years and painted many gym floors over the years in southern Indiana.

Surviving relatives include his two children, Julie (Matt) Hoffman, Joseph (Brooke) Hart, his grandchildren, Jenafer (Nathan) Burns, Jayme (Grant) Hamilton, Jeri Hoffman, Mattyson Hoffman, Joey Hart, Ryllee Hart, Jack Hart and Toby Hart, one great grandchild, Sophie Burns.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Janet on March 9, 2010, and his parents.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 P.M. on Monday September 4, 2023 at the Dugger Union Community School Gym in Dugger, Indiana.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday September 5, 2023 at the Dugger Union Community School Gym with Rev. Matt Hoffman and Greg McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers the family wishes any memorial donations be made to the Joseph Hart Memorial Scholarship Fund.
