Obituary

Cecilia J. Retseck, 96, of Lyons formerly of Michigan City, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.

Cecilia was born at home during a snowstorm on February 10, 1928, on a farm outside Michigan City, Indiana. The Doctor arrived in a racoon skin coat and stayed the night according to family stories. She was the daughter of George and Catherine (Putzhaven) Kintzele.

She was the fifth of seven children born to George and Catherine Kintzele. She attended St Mary's school and skipped two grades to graduate at 16 years old. She went to Chicago to attend Cosmetology school and went into business with her sister Eleanor.

She met her husband Paul in the church choir at St Mary's in Michigan City and they married in 1948. They spent 71 years together and were a great example of a devoted married couple.

Cecilia loved hosting and cooking for her family and extended family. She provided a loving home for Paul's mother Mary and for niece Jane Lindeman during her high school days. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who always put her family first.

She enjoyed traveling and camping with her family as well as square dancing with her husband Paul.

They lived in Sarasota Florida, Long Beach Indiana, Lansdale Pennsylvania, Sullivan Indiana and Odon at Parkview Village before moving into son Jeff and Michelle's house in Lyons for her last years.

Cecilia was a homemaker and was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Bloomfield.

Surviving relatives include: two sons, Jeff Retseck (Michelle) and George Retseck (Beverly); one sister, Katherine Simms; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Retseck on June 24, 2019, one son, Thomas Retseck, five siblings and her parents.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday, August 5, 2024 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Bloomfield, with Rev. Srinivasa Malaka officiating.

Public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rosary services at 4:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to Holy Name Catholic Church.
