Betty Maxine (Boling) Graves Whittington, 87, of Sandborn, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 at The Villages of Oak Ridge in Washington.

Born October 22, 1928 in Greene County, she was the daughter of Walter Jason and Mary Belle (Bough) Boling.

She was a homemaker. As a young woman at the Crane Navy Ammunition Depot, she manufactured the ammunition that helped defeat the Axis Powers during WWII. In the early 1950's while living in the Chicago, Illinois area, she and her husband Chuck fronted a Country & Western band where she performed as a lead singer, her voice often being compared to that of Kitty Wells. A near-death experience with hepatitis ended a promising career. Upon recovery, she focused upon the upbringing of her five children and supporting her husband in his business interests. When returning to Indiana in 1961 and settling in Vincennes, she continued to be both a homemaker and business manager for her husband's service station businesses. Widowed in 1995, she married Dale Whittington of Sandborn, Indiana a few years later and enjoyed a satisfying life with him until his death.

Surviving relatives include: her daughters, Carole Beavers of Hector, Arkansas and Elena Graves of Farrell, Pennsylvania; sons, Gary Graves of Petersburg, Indiana and James Graves of Brandenburg, Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Richard Graves in 1995, her second husband, Dale Whittington, her daughter Judith Ann Nellans, three brothers, Ralph, Ronald and Robert Boling and one sister, Ruth Horning.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Interment will follow in Scotland cemetery.

Public visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.
