Arlen Pope, 86, of Bloomfield passed away Wednesday February 28, 2024 at his residence.
Born January 30, 1938 in Spencer County, Indiana the son of George J. and Marjorie Ruth (Patmore) Pope. As a young man, he grew up on a farm being mischievous with his siblings. Growing up they were caught playing in the barn rafters, fixing flat tires in their underwear, and running around with their friends.
Arlen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and loyal friend to many. In his 60 years of ministry, he served at many churches in Antioch, Boonville, Bedford, and Bloomfield before returning to Antioch for his final 30 years of ministry. During his time in ministry, he performed 855 baptisms, 363 weddings, and 919 funerals. Arlen was active in the community serving on the Bloomfield School Board and the Sheriff Merit Board. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, received the Harvey Hanna award for his community work and was the Grand Marshal of the Apple Festival Parade.
Arlen had a great influence on many in the community and loved spending time with his family. He loved making homemade ice cream with his grandkids and greats, playing euchre, watching Christmas movies, learning about history, having good conversation with friends, and taste testing on baking day.
Arlen was loved by many. Surviving relatives include his wife Eleanor Pope, two daughters, Tammy (Greg) Tucker, Susan (Wes) Heaton, his grandchildren, Tyler (Rachel) Tucker, Austin (Becca) Tucker, Brittany Tucker, Heather Heaton, Hunter Heaton, his great grandchildren, Brantley, Easton, Waylon, Alice, Nora, Maverick and Jackson Tucker; one brother, Robert Pope, two sisters, Linda Pope, Patsy Pope, sister-in-law's, Dottye Hettler, Linda Merold, brother-in-law, Mark Merold and several nieces and nephews.
Arlen was preceded in death by his son, Jay Pope and his parents.
Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. on Saturday at the Antioch Christian Church.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at the Antioch Christian Church with Greg Tucker and Jack Tolbert officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery.
The family would like any memorial donations in Arlen's name be given to the Antioch Christian Church Building Fund or Camp Illiana.
